C&PA were commissioned by the developer, with whom they had previously worked, to apply for planning permission for a 7 storey 120-bed Holiday Inn hotel. The developer had been carefully assembling the site, made up of various redundant workshops and warehousing related to the rag trade, over a number of years.
The practice worked closely with the operator, the International Hotel Group, the parent company of the Holiday Inn brand, to maximise the accommodation within the constraints of a difficult site. These constraints were the impact on the daylighting on neighbouring buildings and a need to convince the planning department that the subsequent built form would not differ from the approved scheme, to which effect full facade deals were required at planning stage. The result is a 7-storey building with ground floor restaurant and bar facilities and limited basement parking.
