Highcroft, constructed in the 1920s, was the first purpose built residential apartment building in Highgate. As the building approaches its centenary, Clements & Porter Architects are working with the residents to renew and redevelop the ageing building.
The brief for Highcroft was to redevelop the building’s roof space, replacing its unsightly telecommunication masts with a new single storey residential extension, comprising 6 additional flats.
The success of the design is in responding to the context of the existing building and wider conservation area. By articulating the massing with overhanging eaves and set back terraces, the proposed extension reinforces and enhance the character of Highcroft. The use of lightweight cladding, coloured to reflect the tone of the brickwork, allows the extension to complement building while remaining subservient.
Haringey have granted planning consent for the scheme and Clements & Porter Architects are continuing to work closely with the leaseholders to take the development to construction.
