This project consisted of the conversion and extension of a run-down Victorian building that had previously been a screen painting workshop. The building is owned and occupied by an interior design company who wished to create a flagship showroom and office. They required a future income by creating rental residential accommodation above.
The design challenge was that the original warehouse was long and narrow with limited external frontage, thus severely limiting the opportunities for residential flats. C&PA resolved this by inserting a central well above the ground floor, thus bringing natural light into the ground floor and enabling the deep plan to be fully utilised for the residential accommodation. An extra two floors were added to increase accommodation.
Visitors can now expect to find a large double height ground floor space, which is the flagship showroom for the company. A mezzanine inserted into this space with rooflights above to the well creates a bright new office directly over the showroom. Above are seven warehouse style flats, including a penthouse with views of the Shard.
C&PA provided a full service including design, planning and contract administration.
