Due to proximity to the adjacent Grade I listed St Leonard’s Church and Churchyard, sensitivity was required in the design of the hotel. The works were complex, involving both new build and conversion. The new build element is a 4 storey side extension plus basement which houses the entrance, reception and dining area as well as rooms on the upper floors. The conversion element consists of the upper floors of the adjoining George and Dragon Public house providing 3 additional floor of rooms.
C&PA were appointed during the initial construction phase to resolve problems of non-compliance by the builder with the planning approval, the client being threatened with enforcement and potentially demolition. We worked with the planning department to resolve this with a revised design to respond to the rhythm and detailing of the existing building while creating a contemporary individual character. We were retained to carry the work through to completion.
We were later retained to provide a full service for further works consisting of the extension of the hotel into the adjacent building.
