In 2006 the Radha Krishna Temple Stratford asked C&PA to investigate the provision of a new dining space for the temple. C&PA worked with the community to develop a viable development brief to provide a new flexible hall space that could be used for dining as well as wider community uses. This is supported by the 9 new flats on the upper floors.
The design creates a ground floor base to accommodate the new hall and residential entrances. Generous curtain walling and a new public space connect the hall to the street. Over this floats a contrasting light brick, L-shaped block with the new dwellings formed around a communal courtyard. Carefully considered brick detailing and large vertical windows echo the local vernacular in a contemporary New London Vernacular.
C&PA have worked closely with the Temple throughout this 10 year project, providing a full service from developing the brief to contract administration.
