A family client wished to build a small house in their garden in the World Heritage Site of Hayle, Cornwall, for use as ancillary accommodation. Their house benefited from planning permission for a bungalow obtained by the previous owner which was unsuitable for their needs.
C&PA have developed an alternative design which works with the contours of the sloping site, whilst prioritising privacy, light and views. By creating a series of half levels it has been possible to stack the bedrooms and create a generous volume for the living space without increasing the scale of the building over the previously approved bungalow.
The materials reflect the need to use a simple cost effective approach to the construction. The concept is to create a solid stone clad base to build a light weight timber structure off. The resulting design provide an elegant design solution.
