A long-time friend of the practice and University Professor client wished to adapt a crumbling ruin of an early 19th Century field barn on the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. The brief was to provide a field headquarters for shelter and storage of materials and tools for work on the small nature reserve.
The proposed structure retains the original rubble stone walls of the barn, but capped with a concrete ring beam, and providing three new openings across two levels. The stone plinth is topped with a contemporary timber structure, finished in welsh Larch externally and exposed ply within.
C&PA have allowed their Part II Architectural Assistant to gain experience on site, managing and taking part in the construction work – a valuable educational experience
