The property is a 4-storey Victorian end of terraced house in a conservation and was the third property the practice had undertaken for this client. The brief was to upgrade the house to provide a luxury family home, including new bathrooms and a kitchen. The works were to include excavating the rear garden and to extend the basement and ground floor to the rear
The main design challenge was to bring light into the deep plan of the basement. A light and airy family room was created by providing large folding sliding doors onto the excavated rear garden and by setting a planar rooflight into the terrace above, which flooded the basement with light whilst enabling full use of the terrace above.
The existing house were renovated to a high standard throughout with a new kitchen and 4 remodelled bathrooms and WCs. This somewhat tired townhouse has been transformed to provide the best in 21st century living.
